Our History

Valley Inquiry opened as Baker Charter School in the Fall of 2005, offering grades K-2. Each subsequent school year an additional grade was added. In 2008-2009 school year, Baker Charter School graduated its first 5th grade class. The school was authorized as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and given the status of an IB World School in March 2010. VICS is the first public IB World School in the Pacific Northwest.

When the school achieved authorization as an IB World School, the Governing Board decided to change the school's name. The name Baker Charter School reflected our school's beginnings, however the name caused confusion in the community with a program called Baker Evenstart. The Governing Board selected the new name to reflect the inquiry-based approach to teaching used at VICS and other IB World Schools.
